About Me

Salut, bienvenidos, welcome friends. Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog!

Let's get some generic facts outta the way real quick:

  • I'm Holly and I'm 21 years old.
  • I have recently graduated from Newcastle University (England) with a 2:1 degree in English Literature and Creative Writing!
  • I'm now continuing into further education with a Master's degree in International Multimedia and Journalism! Side-noteI'm hoping with this Master's degree I'll be able to enter a news sphere I often struggle to identify with... (Then again, who can in this Brexit-ridden climate?)

In the beginning...
I started this blog when I was just 16, feeling apprehensive about sharing writing on an unfamiliar platform. Five years on and I still get the same adrenaline rush when I post new content on here, instantly craving feedback and tracking where in the world my readers are viewing this from.

Scrolling back through old blogposts, I love seeing how my style has matured but also in many ways how it has maintained the same comical, lighthearted anecdotes (I fear I'm too old for this kind of 'if you don't laugh you'll cry' therapy).

Holly who?
As my blog is called 'Hollyday Golightly', I initially imagined I would embody the grace and decorum of Audrey Hepburn's Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Although this text remains my favourite book, the reality of who I really am is becoming ever more apparent... But the blog's all about growth, right?

Going forward...
My dream hasn't changed much since I was little. I was always that kid with a backpack full of books, notepads and stationary galore and although I now try to only carry the essentials, I've always got a pad and pen to hand. I may no longer want to be a librarian (it was a long-lived ambition aged 5), but being a journalist immersed in a world of information and literature and news and ever-changing politics sparks something in me.

Being a successful journalist can be pretty daunting, pretty competitive in a world where everything moves at the speed of lightning. But I'm pretty resilient and with the building blocks of this blog (alongside a lot of other work), I'm pretty sure I've got it in me.
